InterAct Theatre Company's
2008/2009 Season:
Changing the World... One Play At a Time
As we embark on our second 20 years, everyone at InterAct has their eyes squarely focused on the future. What kind of change will a new President bring? Will the two-party political machine create more gridlock in Washington? Will radical extremism and religious fundamentalism relax or intensify? Will attitudes about race, religion, diversity, poverty, sexual orientation and violence change significantly? And if so, in what direction? It is with these questions in mind that we have selected our 2008/2009 season..
I hope you will join us for our 21st season,
as we share a dialogue about our ever evolving world.
Help change the world… one play at a time.

InterAct Theatre Company's 2008/2009 Season
The East Coast Premiere of
THE WAR PARTY
Written by Vincent Delaney
Directed by Rebecca Wright
October 24 - November 23, 2008
Previews: October 24, 25, 26, 28
Opening Night: October 29
It’s 3:00 a.m. on election night. Campaign headquarters is outfitted for a huge celebration; streamers, posters, olives. But the room is as quiet as a churchmouse. Laura Smith, the prohibitive Republican favorite, has lost her Senate race in a landslide. Suddenly without friends, and drunk as a skunk, Laura is thinking of cashing it all in… that is until one of her loyal and spunky interns, Jessie, rescues her from the brink of disaster and wrestles her, quite literally, back to political life. THE WAR PARTY is a modern political parable about the limitations of the two-party system. A timely and provocative satire featuring food fights, girls kissing and the spirit of FDR.
The National New Play Network World Premiere of
THE RANT
Written by Andrew Case
Directed by Seth Rozin
Featuring David Ingram & Kimberly Fairbanks
January 23 - February 22, 2009
Previews: January 23, 24, 25, 27
Opening Night: January 28
An African-American teenager is fatally shot on his front porch in a crime-ridden neighborhood of New York City. Hysterical and wrought with grief, the boy's mother accuses the police of murdering her son. A woman of Persian ancestry, whose job it is to investigate police misconduct, begins to find contradictions in the stories presented by both the mother and various eye-witnesses, including an African-American policeman on the scene. The "men in blue" close ranks around their beleaguered colleague. Accusations of racism and sexism poison the investigation and the audience is led down a Rashomon-like journey in which the truth appears to be less and less accessible, while the world goes on forming uninformed opinions and making uninformed assumptions.
The East Coast Premiere of
JIHAD JONES & THE KALASHNIKOV BABES
Written by Yussef El Guindi
Directed by Seth Rozin
April 10 - May 10, 2009
Previews: April 10, 11, 12, 14
Opening Night: April 15
Ashraf has just received rave reviews for his performance of Hamlet at a struggling theatre in Los Angeles. But he's only earning $200 per week and he's having trouble paying the bills with his sporatic acting career. He needs a big break. A leading role in a Hollywood blockbuster. And that's just what his smarmy, shallow agent is offering. A feature film, big money, working for his favorite director, and playing opposite his favorite Tinsel Town starlet. All Ashraf has to do is play the most stereotypically evil, fanatical Islamic terrorist ever to grace the silver screen. JIHAD JONES follows Ahraf down a hilarious slippery slope, as he balances personal ethics and cultural pride against professional ambition.
The World Premiere of
LITTLE LAMB
Written by Michael Whistler
Directed by Seth Rozin
Featuring Ames Adamson and Kaci Fannin
May 29 - June 28, 2009
Previews: May 29, 30, 31, June 2
Opening Night: June 3
The first production to result from InterAct’s 20/20 New Play Commissioning program, LITTLE LAMB tells the story of Denny and Jose, who want to be daddies... Dennis Boughton has almost everything he could want in this world: a good home, a rewarding career, a loving partner, and a vast collection of Ethel Merman recordings. When he and Jose decide to adopt, they ask Cathy, their adoption agent, to help them find an African-American baby to bring into their home. But when the unthinkable happens, Cathy finds that she herself must make hard decisions about the home for this baby, and choose between her progressive values, her African-American heritage, and her Christianity. LITTLE LAMB looks at how faith and culture collide when family values are at stake.
