A FESTIVAL OF NEW WORKS

OUTSIDE THE FRAME:
Voices From
The Other America
InterAct has searched far and wide to bring together this first-time festival of presented works from regional and national artists that illuminate the richness and complexity of our contemporary world. In this age of ever revolving news headlines and 24-hour constant coverage, the personal narratives of the people whose lives are effected by "the big events" often fall out of the frame through which we view these stories and ourselves. The festival will showcase more than half a dozen acclaimed and engaging first person narratives that celebrate and challenge our American identity.
PLEASE NOTE:
Subscribers receive tickets to two festival events and will be contacted for their two event selections once the festival line-up and schedule are finalized.
Currently, OUTSIDE THE FRAME is scheduled to include:
DRAW THE CIRCLE
Written and performed by Deen
Directed by Chay Yew
As Deen struggles to come to terms with being a transgender man, those who love him most find themselves struggling as well in this unique solo show, told entirely from the point of view of Deen’s family, friends and partner, yet performed by Deen himself.
PALESTINE
Written and performed by Najla Said
Directed by Sturgis Warner
The unique and humorous story of a self-described politically agnostic Upper West Side Palestinian American princess who travels to the occupied territories and discovers her deeper identity as an Arab American woman.
LAY OF THE LAND
Written and performed by Tim Miller
From the controversial and irrepressible creator of US and GLORY BOX comes this fiercely funny look at the fight for marriage equality and the state of the “queer union.”
YOU’RE GONNA CRY
Written and performed
by Paul S. Flores
Directed by Brian Freeman
Set in San Francisco’s Mission
District, YOU’RE GONNA CRY
shows numerous characters
including Latino bohemians,
techies, and immigrants, all confronting the issue of
gentrification and its effect on
local communities.
2012 YOUNG VOICES
Each year, InterAct Theatre joins forces with Philadelphia Young Playwrights to produce the Young Voices Monologue Festival, a competitive program that invites high school students from all over the Philadelphia area to write and submit monologues that address issues important to students today. The top monologues are selected to be developed by professional directors, dramaturgs, and actors, and then presented in a series of showcase performances.
