InterAct offers three kinds of internships: full-season apprenticeships, a production internship, and summer internships. Read on for more detailed descriptions of each position and the application process...

 

SEASON APPRENTICESHIPS

InterAct offers full-season apprenticeships to three qualified recent graduates of a BA or BFA program (or equivalent experience). The full-season apprenticeship aims to give individuals broad-based experience working in all aspects of a small professional theatre company’s operations, including production, literary, marketing, front-of-house, and administration.

Apprentice Responsibilities Include:

  • 20 hours per week at the InterAct office, assisting the staff in day-to-day tasks, which include (but are not limited to):  marketing, audience development, fundraising research, subscriber relations, data entry, filing, mailings, phone reception, and customer service.
  • Apprentices rotate between three roles for each main stage production, serving as:
    • House Manager
    • Box Office Manager
    • Production Assistant /Assistant Stage Manager (As ASM, apprentice will be released from the 20 office hours when in rehearsal.)
  • Apprentices may be given additional opportunities to work with educational outreach, literary management, play development, and casting.

Apprentices will be contracted from September through June.

Season Apprentices will receive:

  • A small monthly stipend
  • Direct access to all full-time and part-time staff for professional development consultations
  • Complimentary tickets to InterAct productions
  • Complimentary tickets to other companies’ productions at The Adrienne
  • Opportunities to meet and work with both Philadelphia-based and visiting artists

Housing is not provided. The apprenticeship is part-time, generally flexible, and designed to accommodate additional outside paying work, should an apprentice choose to hold another job.  Typically, there are opportunities for additional paid work at InterAct throughout the year.

PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP

InterAct offers a Production Internship to one very qualified individual (often a current college student) in the Greater Philadelphia area. The Production Internship provides direct experience working on main stage productions in the areas of lighting (hang, focus), audio install, video install, set construction, load-in, and strike. Additionally, the Production Intern will assist with the technical needs of rental clients, serving as a liaison to InterAct’s Production Manager for both the Mainstage and the SkyBox Theatres at The Adrienne.

Successful candidates should demonstrate skills, interest and experience in technical theater, possess good communication skills, be detailed-oriented, and have some flexibility in their schedule.  Experience installing and operating audio equipment is particularly valuable.

Production Interns will be contracted from September through June.

Production Intern will receive:

  • College credit
  • Complimentary tickets to all InterAct productions
  • Direct access to InterAct’s Production Manager, as well as technical personnel and designers on all main stage productions for professional development consultations

Production Intern is unpaid and housing is not provided. The internship is part time and flexible, designed to accommodate the intern’s class and/or work schedule. Production Intern’s schedule will fluctuate in demand based upon the production and rental calendar. Typically, there are opportunities for additional paid work at InterAct throughout the year.

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

InterAct seeks three volunteer summer interns for 8-12 weeks, between June - August, as follows:   

One Literary Intern:

Literary Intern will work directly under the Artistic Associate for 10-30 hours per week. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Reading and evaluating both general script submissions, as well as 20/20 Commission submission
  • Literary data base entry
  • Participation in new play development activities
  • Assisting with dramaturgical planning and research for main stage productions in upcoming season.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interest in theater and literary management, possess good communication skills, be a thoughtful and comprehensive reader, and be detail-oriented and flexible. The Literary Internship is part-time, very flexible, and designed to accommodate an outside work schedule, should an intern choose to hold another job. Some hours will be dedicated to reading scripts, and can be done out of office, however Literary Intern is expected to work in the office 1 - 2 days per week.

Two Administrative Interns:

Summer Administrative Interns are expected to commit to two days per week at the InterAct office, or 16 hours per week. Administrative Interns will assist InterAct’s staff in day-to-day tasks, which include, but are not limited to: marketing, audience development, fundraising research, subscriber relations, data entry, filing, mailings, phone reception, and customer service.

Successful candidates will demonstrate interest in theater administration, possess good communication skills, and be detail-oriented and flexible. The Summer Administrative Internship is part-time, very flexible, and designed to accommodate outside work schedules, should an intern choose to hold another job.

Summer Interns receive:

  • College credit
  • Direct access to InterAct’s full-time and part-time staff for professional development consultations
  • Comprehensive experience working in a nonprofit, professional theatre company

Summer internships are unpaid, and no housing is provided.
