MARCUS/EMMA by Mary Tuomanen

  • InterAct Theatre Company 302 South Hicks Street Philadelphia, PA, 19102 United States (map)

Free the radicals! Two of American history’s most iconic revolutionaries -- Jewish anarchist Emma Goldman and African American civil rights activist Marcus Garvey -- are mashed together to spin their legacies in the desperate hope of regaining prominence in our increasingly inequitable society. Their battle ignites a firestorm of racial subjugation, social significance, moral righteousness, gender revision, and sexual domination. Tuomanen’s vibrant voice brings the political passion, tender humanity and savage humor of Goldman and Garvey to life in a play that begs the question: Where are our inspirational radicals when we need them most?
