Join the next generation of professionals making theatre for today's world.

Each year, InterAct seeks four enthusiastic theatre artists to fulfill full-season apprenticeships. From September to June, apprentices gain comprehensive experience working at a small professional theatre company, participating in hands-on tasks in every department. The apprenticeship culminates in an original show or showcase fully produced by the apprentices, with guidance from InterAct staff and use of The Drake’s facilities.

InterAct Apprentices go on to successful careers as performers, directors, playwrights, administrators, and artistic directors in Philadelphia and beyond. Learn more about our apprentice alumnx here.

Applications for the 2019-20 Season are now closed. Please check back in winter 2020 for future seasons.

Season Apprentice

InterAct offers four full-season apprenticeships to qualified recent graduates of a BA or BFA program, or emerging theatre professionals with equivalent experience. Apprenticeships offer broad-based experience working in all aspects of a small professional theatre company’s operations, including production, literary, marketing, development, front-of-house, and administration. This is not an acting or directing program.

  • 20 hours per week at InterAct's offices, early September through June

  • Assisting with day-to-day tasks including, but not limited to: marketing, audience development, customer service, fundraising research, filing, mailings, and facilities and office management

  • Assisting with load-in and strike for InterAct productions

  • Rotating through House Manager, Box Office Manager, and Production Assistant/Assistant Stage Manager roles during production

  • Additional opportunities in outreach, season selection, play development, and casting may arise

  • Successful apprentices are enthusiastic, driven, passionate theatremakers with good communication skills and a willingness to dive in.

  • The apprenticeship runs from early September to late June; applicants must be willing to commit to staying in the Philadelphia area through the duration of the program.

  • Apprentices are responsible for their own transportation.

InterAct Apprentices receive a monthly stipend; complimentary tickets to InterAct and Drake Resident Partner productions; opportunities to meet, network, and work with Philadelphia-based and visiting artists; and direct access to staff for professional development consultation.

Apprentices are allowed flexibility to maintain jobs outside of their part-time commitment to InterAct. There are typically opportunities for additional paid work at the theatre. Housing and health benefits are not provided.

InterAct prizes diversity in our art and in our hiring.
We are an EOE employer. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
